Description

The Flathead County Library this winter is hosting three new art exhibits on display at the Kalispell, Bigfork, and Columbia Falls libraries.

At the Bigfork library, viewers will find Indian Country in a Glimpse: A Contemporary Photography Exhibition. The public is invited to a reception on Dec.11 from 3–6 p.m. at the Bigfork library to celebrate more than 35 original works by six photographers from the Flathead Nation. This exhibition highlights compelling perspectives on land, wildlife, people, and impact.

Art enthusiasts are encouraged to stop by the Columbia Falls library, where they can explore the mixed media works of iconic Flathead Valley artist, Rocky Hoerner. Rocky’s wildlife acrylic paintings, mountain landscapes, and signature calendars have been recognizable works in Montana for over 50 years. The library is excited to feature many of his unique pieces at the Columbia Falls branch this winter.

Local artist and art educator Tom Roberts returns to the Kalispell library. Robert's acrylic paintings focus on big game, wildlife, and Montana landscape. His love for Montana was inspired in part by the 20 years that he and his wife, Cindy, spent as seasonal park rangers in Yellowstone National Park. Roberts worked as an interpretive guide and reenacted many live histories. These experiences continue to influence his art. View Robert's current exhibit on display at the Kalispell library through February 2026.

In addition, Flathead County Library has partnered with the Flathead Audubon Society for a unique art worksshop. A hands-on art and conservation event supporting the national project, Bird Collisions in the Anthropocene, will be held on Dec. 15 from 4-6 p.m. at the Kalispell Library. Participants use upcycled cloth to handcraft life-sized bird sculptures. Each artwork commemorates a real bird that lost its life after hitting glass. Flathead Audubon Education Coordinator Jess Garby will also share insight into bird conservation strategies.

All artwork on display is available for purchase and a portion of the proceeds benefits Flathead County Library. Flathead County Library welcomes the opportunity for local artists to display artwork for public viewing in exhibit spaces. Artists are encouraged to apply at flatheadcountylibrary.org/programs/art-exhibits/.
