Two Medicine River Bridge to undergo repair work in 2026

Description

The Montana Department of Transportation is planning repairs on the Two Medicine River Bridge, located about a mile northeast of East Glacier Park Village, near the east entrance of Glacier National Park and about 10 miles west of Browning.

Work is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026. A contractor has not yet been selected, but the contract is expected to be awarded in late November 2025.

“The Two Medicine River Bridge serves as an important connector for area residents, business owners, tourists and outdoor enthusiasts. The existing bridge needs rehabilitation, which will strengthen the structure, enhance safety for the traveling public and extend the bridge’s service life,” said Mark Studt, the transportation agency's consultant project engineer, in a statement.

The bridge is currently safe for normal traffic. The upcoming rehabilitation will fix existing issues and help preserve the bridge for the long term. Construction will focus on strengthening and sealing cracks in the main spans of the bridge to improve its durability. Minor repairs and overlay of the bridge deck driving surface will also be included in the project.

One temporary nighttime bridge closure is anticipated during construction. The duration of the closure and disruptions will be minimized as much as possible. The specific date and time of the temporary closure will be announced closer to the start of construction.
