Description

The Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide after finding a person dead at the scene of a house fire on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

According to Sheriff Mike Linder, deputies responded to the report of a fire on Jim Street inside the Meadowlark Trailer Park.

He said in a news release that the fire was extinguished, and during the investigation at the scene, a body was found inside the residence.

Evidence at the scene indicated that foul play was likely a factor in the death.

Investigators were able to identify a person of interest, and put out a description of the vehicle that the individual was possibly driving.

A Montana Highway Patrol Trooper found the vehicle and the person in Big Horn County, and took him into custody shortly after noon on Saturday.

That person was returned to Yellowstone County and remanded into the Yellowstone County Detention Facility on charges related to the death.

An autopsy is scheduled for the deceased individual.

Sheriff Linder said that at this time this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no indication of any danger to local citizens.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office at 406-256-2929.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the person who died, nor the name of the person who was arrested.

We will update you when we get more information.
