Description

Prosecutors in October added a felony drug possession charge against a Kalispell man already awaiting trial in Flathead County District Court for allegedly running down a pedestrian with his pickup truck over the summer.

Steven Lee Myers, 34, was originally facing a felony count of aggravated assault for the alleged Fourth of July ramming in the parking lot of a gas station and fast food restaurant along U.S. 2 in Evergreen. On Oct. 7, prosecutors added a felony count of criminal possession of dangerous drugs after a bag of white powder allegedly found on Myers during his arrest was identified as cocaine by the Montana Crime Lab.

Myers pleaded not guilty to both charges before Judge Dan Wilson at his Oct. 23 arraignment.

Flathead County Sheriff's Office deputies began searching for Myers in the early morning hours of July 4 after interviewing the victim in the emergency room of Logan Health Medical Center, according to court documents. Myers allegedly approached the victim, who was at the gas station with a friend about 2 a.m., and started fighting with them.

During the confrontation, Myers hopped into his pickup truck and drove toward a nearby fast food restaurant, court documents said. Then he turned back and allegedly struck the victim, who suffered a ruptured spleen, punctured lung and broken ribs.

Deputies tracked Myers down in Lakeside about 9:53 p.m. that day and arrested him, according to court documents. The bag of white powder turned up during a subsequent search.  Myers, whose criminal history includes a felony drunk driving conviction in 2023, was also deemed to have violated his probation in December. In that case, authorities caught him driving a Chevrolet Suburban down a walking path near the intersection of Woodland Drive and U.S. 2 in March 2022.

An omnibus hearing in Myers' latest felony case is scheduled for Jan. 28 with a pretrial conference to follow on March 10.

Aggravated assault is punishable by up to 20 years in Montana State Prison and a $50,000 fine. Criminal possession of dangerous drugs carries a maximum penalty of five years behind bars and a $5,000 fine.
