The Lake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday that a man was missing after a specialized, non-motorized row boat capsized on Flathead Lake.
According to a press release, the incident was reported at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning near the end of Rocky Point. Two other people, a man and a woman, were rescued by other boaters and taken to shore, where they were transported by ambulance to a local hospital due to hypothermia.
The missing person is 58-year-old James Ventura Dominguez from Cheyenne, Wyo. He was last seen wearing a blue hoodie over a grey T-shirt, grey shorts and sandals.
The Sheriff’s Office and Lake County Search and Rescue were continuing search efforts Tuesday, but the sheriff said high winds and rough water had stymied further use of boats.
Flathead Lake was turbulent Tuesday after a storm front rolled through western Montana, bringing rain and strong winds. The National Weather Service predicted waves could approach 4 feet on portions of the lake.
