Description
An 18-year-old accused of threatening people in a home near Kalispell in August with a gun has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges in Flathead County District Court.
Prosecutors brought Tayo Ryan Hansen up on a felony assault with a weapon charge and one count of misdemeanor partner or family member assault following the Aug. 11 confrontation. He was arraigned before Judge Paul Sullivan on Sept. 4.
Flathead County Sheriff's Office deputies headed to the Steven Road home about 12:51 a.m., Aug. 11 after receiving a report of a man who had drawn a gun during an argument, according to court documents. Several of the people involved told authorities that the group had been at a bar earlier in the evening to celebrate a birthday when the disagreement began.
The spat continued after the group returned to the Steven Road home. Bystanders described Hansen -- who was reportedly drunk at the time -- as having gone crazy upon their arrival, court documents said.
After allegedly taking a bat to a door, Hansen briefly left the home, but returned and began making threats. When he started pushing around one of the people in the home another individual intervened, according to court documents. Hansen then ducked into his room and allegedly reemerged with a handgun.
Hansen aimed the firearm at everyone involved in the disagreement before it was taken away from him, court documents said.
Later questioned by deputies, Hansen allegedly confirmed most of the account given by the victims. He also admitted "he was in the wrong," according to court documents.
Hansen is expected back in court for a pretrial hearing Feb. 25. If convicted of assault with a weapon, he faces up to 20-years in Montana State Prison and a $50,000 fine.
